It's tough for Australia to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the record chasers, are the only things left for a squad that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's challenging for their hitters to hold a record if not provided the opportunity.

Finally, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy being given a chance to produce her newest gem.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her bow and seven international trophies have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

Whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Certain people claim the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this performance came after six matches in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it's been a challenging time because I feel like I've had no rhythm completely," said Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your fighting spirit take over and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the opening delivery and from that point the batsman was underway.

"The possibility to take the field and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

Once she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to do that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if we do, we believe we can succeed."

These statements will be the last Australia's opponents at this tournament need to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will win from any position has grown stronger - this success coming after success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they exited the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing through the pain.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have postponed consideration of ending her career, this tournament is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a global event as leader.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her final mountain.
